I used this (slightly amended from the original) at the end of the service last week.

maybe in this there has been a glimpse of the kingdom
a foretaste
a hint
a promise
let it hold us and let it send us
so we will not be completely at rest
until all are fed
until all know home
until all are free
until justice is done
until peace is the way
until grace is the custom
until love is the rule
until God’s realm comes
until God’s realm comes
until God’s realm comes…

Amen.

Cheers to hold this space

From the blog Bene Diction, good words, well said; a blessing to speak goodness of, and to, others, especially for those who most need to hear:

Have courage for the great sorrows

And patience for the small ones

And when you have laboriously acomplished

Your daily tasks,

Go to sleep in peace.

God is awake.

The U2 song One works a bit like a hymn especially when sung with Bono’s conviction. There’s an extended version with an extra verse which makes it even more of a spiritual song:

Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame
You say
One love
One life
When it’s one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don’t care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it’s

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We’re one, but we’re not the same
We get to
carry each other
hurry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much?
More than a lot.
You gave me nothing,
Now it’s all I got
We’re one
But we’re not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can’t be holding on
To what you got
When all you’ve got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we’re not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One…
One…

extended version

Can You hear us coming Lord
Can You hear us call
Feel us knocking
We’re knocking at Your door

This cover/smother version takes a good thing in an altogether different direction to where St Bono wasn’t heading:

God Bless the Bank of America. I’m switching.

Ben Bell came up with this picture last year and it’s climbing the Google image result rankings for ‘Christmas Card’:

He has a card out for this Advent this year:
